Dissertation

The dissertation - a public presentation and defense of the thesis takes place at the end of the doctoral studies. At the event there will be an opponent and an examination committee. The planning for the dissertation should begin well in advance of the event. The process of submission, printing, and proceedings, as well as the individuals involved in the dissertation, are described on the respective faculty's webpages (see below).

Typically, each department/unit often has a ceremony following the dissertation.

If the thesis defense is approved by the examination board, and all other formal requirements are met, the doctoral student can obtain their degree and may also participate in the graduation ceremony (promovering). The graduation ceremony is held in Lund Cathedral (Lunds Domkyrka) at the end of May each year.
